The Top 5 Cape Town Steakhouses

Every visitor to South Africa will most certainly learn about our love affair with meat very quickly. From breakfast, through lunch and dinner, meaty snacks and dishes accompany us all day long to keep us full and energized. And no meat snack is more superior than the steak – and South Africa is speckled with not short a good steak house.

And when it comes to meat, not many meals can compete with a succulent piece of steak, cooked to perfection and just as you like it. If you agree, then read on.

Even though beef is demonized by many as ‘unhealthy red meat’, a delicious piece of steak is in fact a great source of zinc, iron, selenium, vitamin B12, B6 and B3. Not to mention all the goodness of high quality protein, and… zero carbs! That’s why your favourite steak dinner can be enjoyed as part of a healthy balanced diet.

The largest producers of beef in the world are the United States and Brazil, but South Africa can also boast a thriving beef industry worth over R 1.6 billion. That means we have no shortage of great steakhouses around the country. Here are five of our top choices in Cape Town:

  1. Hussar Grill – Camps Bay, Stellenbosch, Rondebosch, Mouille Point

A chain of steak house with branches in Camps Bay, Stellenbosch, Rondebosch, Mouille Point and a few others. Their menu will leave you stunned! There is so much choice that you could spend quite some time wondering which cut to pick, but if you’re not a steak pro (yet!) a helpful and knowledgeable member of staff will come around with a wooden board of raw cuts and explain where each of them comes from and how it is prepared. They also have a great selection of wines and yummy desserts, so try leave some space!

Useful tip: The branch in Stellenbosch offers amazing value for money by participating in 2 for 1 dining programme! Check it out here

  1. Pirates Pub&Grill – Plumstead

Simple and unpretentious, somehow old school, with a pub vibe to it and live music every night. Excellent steaks and real value for money! If you live in the area and love dining out, you can join their Pirates Dining Club which makes dining at Pirates even more affordable through a variety of vouchers and offers.

  1. NV-80 Restaurant – Sea Point

Don’t be put off by the location, as it’s not your typical shopping centre restaurant. The amazing steaks and fantastic service make NV-80 one of Sea Point favourites, and will surely make you want to go back. Nice selection of reasonably priced cocktails to enjoy before or after your dinner. The restaurant has been rated 12th out of 926 restaurants in Cape Town on Trip Advisor, quite an achievement.

  1. Cattle Baron – Constantia

Another well-known chain of restaurants with fantastic selection of starters, seafood, chicken dishes and most importantly, mouth-watering steaks. Their meat is always well prepared, juicy and so flavoursome! You can’t go wrong.
